"Soldier" - Erykah Badu (from the album New Amerykah: Part 1)

Here's a bit of it, makes you think (if it doesn't, start thinking lol)
Different from the Erykah we know and love but this song...

Now to my folks think dey living sweet,
Well dey gone f**k around and push delete
To the girls on perscriptions pills,
I know how ya feel
To my boys in Iraqi fields
This ain't no time to kill
To my girls in therapy,
See imma tell you this fo' free
To my folks up on the hill,
With the cake and dollar bills,
You need to watch da dirty cop
Dey the one you need to watch

You get the wake up call
When you saw the buildings fall
Bowties with the final call
Get ya money dollar bill yall
Bowties with the final calls
Get ya money dollar bill yall

To my folks on the picket line
Dont stop til you change dey mind
I got luv fo' my folks
Baptized when the levy broke
We gone keep marchin' on
Until you hear dat freedom song
And if you think about turning back
I got the shotgun on ya back
And if you think about turning back
I got the shot gun on ya back
BLLAAAA (BLAT!)

What am I talking bout
Errbody know what dis song's about
Dey be trying to hide the history
But they know who we are
Dooooo you want to see
Errybody rise to the NEXT degree?
Raise ya hands high if you agree
Just say Yessireeee

Finger People

Lmao people just have too much time on their hands. This is me - well not really, I have all this time that I don't have (procrastination 101 - I'm doing it right now)

I actually wish I was the bored sucker who came up with these finger people. I tried to draw a couple of them but they were just ugly smudges so I gave it up *shrug*
Success - it's all about perspective (image via http://necolebitchie.com/2011/05/04/jay-z-talks-success-watch-the-throne-delays-illuminati-rumors/

Untitled

Experience has taught me that laughter can colour my world lumo
Experience has taught me to be nice to everybody I encounter – it’s amazing how much a smile can hide
Experience has taught me that sometimes the person whose attention I’m vying for the most, does not think that I am worth their time
Experience has taught me that my definition of constant things will constantly change as I grow
Experience has taught me that letting go of whatever’s hurting me does not immediately take the pain away
Experience has taught me how easy it is to kill a flame
Experience has taught me that all my needs are catered for, it is my wants which create unnecessary voids
Experience has taught me that there are as many beautiful people as there are evil
Experience has taught me that I’m not always right about myself
Experience has taught me that your voice reads my words
Experience has taught me that not everyone thinks I’m as awesome as I think I am

Experience has forced me to grow faster than my skin can stretch
I'm still grasping straws

1in9 Silent Protest

The 1in9 campaign is by far the most rewarding thing I have ever been a part of.
The t-shirts we donned said:
"55 000 rapes were reported in SA in 2009. Only 1in9 rapes are reported and of those only 4% are successfully prosecuted.
My silence affirms my solidarity with SURVIVORS silenced by rape and sexual violence.

Freedom  of speech is denied to victims of sexual violence. I call on all men to break the cycle of sexual violence.
Rhodes University in solidarity with the 1in9"

That pretty much sums up the point of the protest. Breaking the silence was so emotional for me this year, especially having so many people close to me being victims, others survivors, of rape.

What worried me most were the way some boys were making jokes about how we wouldn't be able to scream if they were to rape us that day. Is this the kind of ignorance and malice we are breeding to father and lead our country? Smh

Yay! I'm blogging :)

Okay, so to be honest I'm not quite sure what a blog is. I think I have a vague idea - like an online journal type thing? Anyway, I figured I'd give this a shot instead of playing dumb Facebook games & cyber stalking people as a procrastination tool lol.

I'm not totally crazy-obsessed with ONE thing in particular so I guess this will just be a random collection of things that pop into my mind (or float my boat *chuckle*).

This kind of makes me feel crazy but that's what cyber space is about these days isn't it? A place where you can talk to yourself about arbitrary things and not be considered a total mental case.
I promise (I don't know who I'm making this promise to lol but I'm promising anyway) to update my blog as often as possible. With exams coming up this is probably not the best time to start blogging but what the shucks? Here goes...
